Microsoft further explained how the Windows 10 S laptops would be designed to support STEM learning and in a way will democratize the education. It’s worth noting that one cannot sideload an app and if they try doing so the Windows 10 S will suggest the same or similar app from the Windows app store for download. Furthermore, the operating system is capable of running a diversified range of hardware including that of entry-level notebooks and Surface Book. The Windows 10 S will support educational and professional apps including AutoDesk, Minecraft, Office 365 and Adobe Photoshop. While Microsoft claims that the new operating system will run any browser from the app store it’s most likely that for the time being one has to stick to the Microsoft Edge, why? because there is no other browser on the Windows app store as of now. Educators can, however, unlock to Windows 10 Pro if they need to install any other app. The Windows 10 S takes only 15 seconds to log in and load apps while the Surface Pro took 40 seconds to do the same. Microsoft also has something in store for the IT admins, well one can simply configure a copy of Windows 10 S along with the apps and set it up by using a pen drive. Everything is automated all the IT folks need to do is plug in the USB key and the PC will auto configure in 30 seconds. Microsoft has already managed to rope in major PC OEMs including Acer, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Toshiba and Samsung. The laptops will be priced starting from $189 and will be loaded with the free one-year subscription to Office 365 apps and Minecraft Education Edition.
