In terms of design, the new Redmi 5 phones flaunt rounded corners and abandon off-screen capacitive buttons to accommodate the new near bezel-less screens. Otherwise, they largely resemble previous Xiaomi phones and feature an aluminum build. Speaking of screens, the smaller Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ panel, while the Redmi 5 Plus comes with a larger Full HD+ display. Both of them are LCD and carry an aspect ratio of 18:9.

Under the hood, the Redmi 5 is powered by a Snapdragon 450 chipset coupled with either 2 or 3GB of RAM. The Redmi 5 Plus, on the other hand, runs on Xiaomi’s sacrosanct Snapdragon 625 processor with 3 or 4GB of RAM. Moreover, the Redmi 5 comes with a 3300mAh battery and the Redmi 5 Plus houses a 4000mAh pack. Both of them feature a rather disappointing and dated Micro USB port on the bottom. The camera arrangement includes a single unspecified 12-megapixel camera sensor with 1.25-micron pixels and a front-facing selfie flash. Both of them ship with the company’s own MIUI9 out of the box.
